Critical Issues Member Forum Call – Industrial AI

Abstract

General Motors, the 2026 Manufacturing Leadership Awards Large Enterprise Manufacturer of the Year, also received top honors in the Enterprise Integration & Technology category for its award-winning project,  Device-Level Analytics to Enable Smart Manufacturing at GM.  This session will explore the innovative work behind that initiative and its connection to the growing role of Industrial AI.

Modern manufacturing generates enormous amounts of data, but data alone does not create value.  In this session, General Motors will share how its Device-Level Analytics (DLA) platform and unified data model connect equipment, processes, and telemetry data across the enterprise. What began as an on-premises systems solution has evolved into a cloud-native platform spanning more than 55 sites, 27,000 connected devices, 500,000 equipment assets, and 87,000 process locations.

Join this Manufacturing Leadership Council Critical Issues Member Forum to learn how GM built and scaled its data foundation, migrated and governed it in the cloud, and enabled GM’s enterprise-wide AI applications for equipment and conveyor monitoring. The platform now manages more than 40 million configuration points and processes 1.8 billion records daily, providing the scale needed to support advanced analytics and AI-driven operations.

Key Takeaways:
  • How a standardized configuration model organizes device and line context so heterogeneous data becomes usable, trustworthy input for industrial AI, even when it spans tens of thousands of devices and millions of configuration points
  • How GM machine learning models were able to scale a monitoring use case from a small pilot on a few assets to thousands of production resources across plants, while maintaining 4.5M+ auto-calculated control limits and 5M+ graph relationships between objects
  • How GM combined both strong data engineering practices and AI to move from disconnected data silos to a unified platform that accelerates operational insights and problem solving
Presenters:
  • Mahsa Moussavi, Staff Scientist, Manufacturing Device Collection Engineering, General Motors
  • Matthew DeMott, Staff Data Engineer, Manufacturing Cloud Engineering, General Motors
Facilitator:
  • Melissa Boom, Senior Content Director, Manufacturing Leadership Council
